Believe it or not people, the holiday season is here! I know, I know, it feels like it is too soon to start thinking about it, but if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Here at MC there are a ton of ways you can start getting in the holiday spirit by helping out in your community.
As the end of the semester rolls around I know how hard it is to balance all of the school work and projects that are quickly piling up around you, but what a better way to try to destress than help out the clubs on campus, help the people in our community have a great holiday season.
One thing you can do is get involved with the Lasallian Collegians Toy Drive. Each year, Lasallian Collegians collects toys for the children from St. Jerome’s parish in the South Bronx. There are a few different ways you can help out.
- You can bring new, unwrapped, gender neutral toys (board games, puzzles, ect.) to Cornerstone (MGL 209) before December 3rd.
- You can donate to GoFundMe, in which all proceeds go to help buy more toys for the day of the Toy Drive. (this is the link gofundme.com/lasallian-collegians-toy-drive-2016)
- Help out the day of! The Lasallian Collegians need as much help as they can get the day of the Drive. Email conor.reidy@manhattan.edu if you are interested in helping out.
Another opportunity is the 1st annual Mitten Tree held by the Office of the Registrar. Donate unused mittens, gloves, hats and scarves. You can bring donatations to Memorial Hall Room 101 or Thomas Hall 3.60. All donations will go to the Putnam Community Action Partnership.
A fun opportunity you could participate in is Kappa Delta Pi, Education Honor Society’s annual Winter Wonderland in Smith Auditorium. Stop by and hang out with kids from the neighborhood and help them get into the Holiday spirit! If you and a group of friends are interested in having your own table, email kappadeltapi@manhattan.edu!
One last opportunity you can be involved in is helping the English Honor Society-Sigma Tau Delta, collect books to help Build A Library book drive in collaboration with BreakingGround.org. You can drop off new or lightly used books of all kinds to Miguel 4th Floor or O’Malley 5th Floor.
Happy giving!
