Nowadays, it is too easy to get caught up in academics or work, and after a long week we all deserve to take a break. Self-care often gets pushed to the bottom of our to-do lists when it should really be the priority. However, as college students, we may not have the means to go to a luxury spa for a day, but that shouldn’t stop you. There are plenty of other ways to pamper yourself right from your dorm room and I’m here to tell you how!

Set the mood

My favorite way to start off any pamper session is by making my space nice and comfy, brewing myself a cup of tea, and putting on my favorite chill vibes playlist. Set the mood the way you like it and then you’re ready to get your night started!

Mani + Pedi

Whether you are trying to save money or do not have the time for a nail appointment, an at-home manicure is the perfect way to save yourself both time and money. Grab your best friend or roommate, put on your favorite show, and give each other a mani-pedi! This is an easy and cost-efficient way to make yourself look just a little more put together.

Face steam

An at-home face steam is one of the easiest ways to open clogged pores and give your skin a proper cleanse. I find steaming my face is especially helpful when battling any pesky breakouts because it removes toxins and allows my skin to be much more receptive to any skincare treatments. You can create your own “steam bath” by boiling water, carefully pouring it into your sink or a large bowl, then draping a towel over your head, and remain there for 5-10 minutes. Make it even more of a spa experience by adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the water and enjoy!

Avocado face mask

As winter rolls around and the weather gets colder, sometimes the best moisturizer still leaves our skin feeling dry and in need of a little extra care. Therefore, take that leftover half of your avocado and turn it into a face mask! Mash the avocado, mix in some honey, and then you’re good to go! Avocado is packed with antioxidants that help fight dark spots, fine lines, and Vitamin A that restores natural collagen in the skin. Plus, a homemade mask is a great alternative to sheet masks that can produce a lot of unnecessary trash!

Brown sugar body scrub

Exfoliating once a week is the perfect way to unclog your pores, boost circulation and lymphatic drainage, and rejuvenate your skin overall. One of my go-to DIY scrubs only requires three ingredients: brown sugar, honey, and olive oil. This scrub not only gives your complexion the boost it needs, but leaves your skin feeling refreshed and moisturized too!

The recipe:

  • Âľ cup brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • ÂĽ cup honey

In all, treating yourself does not have to break the bank or take up a lot of your time. Remember that everybody needs a break once in a while and that is okay! This is your chance to do whatever makes you feel better and refreshed because you deserve it.
