How to Have a Virtual Game Night: Power Point Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

During this unfortunate time of COVID-19, it can be difficult to have enjoyable nights with friends and family when having to do it virtually. However, it is not impossible! With video chat platforms like Facetime, Zoom, House Party or Google Meet, game nights can bring people together safely.

Powerpoint Night

A fun and popular idea is to gather a group of friends or family virtually and have a Powerpoint Presentation Night. This virtual game night takes a spin on the usual use of presentations for school or work.

However, it definitely takes a certain group that would get along and enjoy the unique party idea because “these aren’t the kind of boring PowerPoints you’d see in your 101s,” says Kristin Merrilees from Niche PowerPoint Parties Are What’s Keeping Us Educated in 2020.

First, each participant chooses their topic to create a Google Slides, Word Presentation, or Keynote on. Once everyone has their own unique ideas, they can either take time to put them together on the call or have them prepared and ready for the night. Then, each member of the group can share their screens and present their new creations.

These presentations can be about whatever you want. Ranging from silly to serious, these slides can also be however long! Some ideas to help for inspiration include rating the favorite/best foods, television or movie characters and even exes or hookups. In addition, for some more unique ideas, people can present on their random conspiracy theories, inside jokes involving the friend group or family members, and basically any opinion that they want to argue to the group.

An easy way to make each presentation even more powerful is to “fill your slideshow with images, charts, graphs, quotes, gifs, videos, and whatever else makes your point, and have fun with it,” says Lauren Phillips from PowerPoint Party Ideas: What They Are, How to Host One, Ideas, and More.

The best part about the presentation night is that each person’s slides can be a surprise to each other.

Happy presenting!
