1. Your Living Space is now your workspace as well, so decrease your distractions!Â
Personally, with a heavy school load and my responsibilities with my executive board positions, I was immediately concerned about working from home because it was not my typical focus setting. I changed the orientation of my room where I now have my desk as my “office setting,” a new addition of a futon for relaxing, and my bed for resting. I cannot stress enough how this tip can go a long way, because it tricks you into thinking it’s a new productive space. Make a promise to yourself to keep your newly organized space tidy, and no distractions will be able to get in your way of being the best girl boss.
2. Don’t Have Library Access or an Office Space?
Make the best of what you got! Some of us may have gotten rid of our school desks and chairs after we committed to college assuming they would no longer be useful to us. If you could even set up a white folding table and make it your own, it will still complete the job! I even have some friends who are using a “breakfast in bed” table so they can be productive in their favorite spot.Â
3. Keep to Your Same Schedule
Since the new coronavirus has disrupted people’s ways of life such as their daily schedule, work routine, consistent workout, etc. It is still really important to try to keep to your everyday schedule as best as possible. Otherwise, you may fall into a slump and mistake your time at home as a vacation, but the demand from your schoolwork and job are still there. Get dressed everyday!
4. Dress Your Best!
You’re not going to feel your best if you’re lying around in the same sweatpants for the last 3 days. Make sure you have a consistent routine everyday to wake up and put on real clothes, especially if you are still attending conference calls for work or having virtual classroom meetings.Â
5. Try to Take a Caffeine Break
This is the best time to wind off your daily (and very expensive) coffee drinking habit. Personally, I would start off my day with Starbucks and end it with a Dunkin coffee, which not only adds up in price but builds an unhealthy caffeine reliance. Ever since I started my school work from home Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks are no longer as easily accessible, so I have been saving my cash and drinking water instead. Keeping water on your desk will make you mindlessly drink it, and is a much healthier habit than drinking your typical ice coffee, latte, Starbucks Refresher, or whatever you fancy.
6. Make a To Do List and Follow It
I know personally, I get satisfaction from being able to check off my to-do list throughout the day. It makes me feel better if I know I used my day productively. I highly suggest sitting down in the evening to write a to do list for the following day, or you can even make it something to do when you wake up. Whatever you did not get to complete at the end of you day, you can always add to tomorrow’s to do list. The few moments it takes can help you stay on track, and not spend the whole day lounging around.Â
