A few weeks ago, it was announced that “Sex and the City” is getting a reboot and coming back. There have been a lot of mixed reactions towards it. “Sex and the City” is known as one of the most iconic shows of all time. For the most part, it is credited with being an extremely influential show as far as breaking boundaries for women in their sex lives and careers. But a reboot 20 years later? I’m not so sure.
I think that the first huge problem with this reboot is that there is going to be no Samantha. Let’s face it; Samantha was half the show. She was the one who had the most adventures and was the most progressive for women. I just personally think that’s going to be a red flag right there. I also think that the second issue at hand here is going to be the lack of diversity. New York is one of the biggest and most diverse cities in the world. There has got to be more representation of the people who are actually living there; men and women. Especially with knowing how important diversity is in 2021, the producers are definitely going to need to make that change. Additionally, I think they’re going to have to get creative with whatever plotline they’re planning on. I just really don’t think that people are still going to want to see Carrie chasing after Mr. Big after all these years in her 50’s. Sure, it was fun back when the show was running, but that’s going to be a bit dated and overdone at this point.
I guess my point is, I really think that they are just trying to bring the show back for money and for nostalgia, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a good thing. I really don’t want not only one of my favorite shows but also one of the most iconic shows of all time, to become a sellout and not be remembered well. But who knows, maybe I could be wrong. Maybe the show will be back and better than ever. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens!
