The recent outbreak of COVID-19 has caused panic, stress, and chaos all over the world. It’s only natural if you’re anxious during such times. Having to stay at home for days at a stretch can possibly take a toll on your mental health. So while you’re busy working from home, or studying at home, here are a few things that’ll help you keep your mental health in check:

1. LIMIT YOUR NEWS INTAKE

This is something I have been practicing personally. I only check the news twice a day. And I’ve seen a massive upgrade in the betterment of my mental health. Rely on sources that are trusted. Fake news can cause a lot of unnecessary anxiety.

Here are some sources that are verified and provide regular updates:

2. CALL YOUR LOVED ONES

If you’re too stressed and just need someone to talk to, call your friends and family. If you feel the need for professional help, contact your therapist. Reach out to people who can help. Here is a list of organizations that are ready to help during this time.

3. EXERCISE AND MANAGE YOUR DIET

Physical and mental health are interrelated. You must take your meds, maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Exercising at home might be a little difficult if you don’t have the proper equipment, but you can always turn to yoga. After all, exercising produces endorphins or the “feel-good” chemicals in your body. They can help relieve pain, boost happiness and reduce anxiety.

4. CHANNEL YOUR ENERGY TOWARDS SOMETHING CREATIVE

Use this time to do something you’ve always wanted to do. Read a book or learn how to cook. You could try gardening or take up Instagram challenges. There’s so much to explore this quarantine season. But of course, make sure they’re all indoor activities!

5. CHILL WITH YOUR QUARANTIGOS

Be it your pet, your siblings, parents, significant other, or your friends, take some time to just chill with your amigos. You could sit and watch a movie or just catch up like old times. If you’re stranded far from home, you could always call, or even better, video call.

Here are some additional resources to help you take care of yourself during this time.

Times are tough. Just remember to practice all healthcare advisory given out by the authorities. Wash your hands regularly and stay safe. Let’s all beat this virus t o g e t h e r.
