A posh NYC venue? Check. Mingling with Her Campus writers and fashion industry leaders? Check. A night of fun and fashion in the city that doesn’t sleep? Double Check. Her Campus College Fashion Week in New York City was a success!
On Oct. 11, Santos Party House in NYC was filled with Her Campus chapter members and NYC fashionistas for the night’s events. Her Campus put on four different shows in different cities- beginning in Boston, HC college fashion week made its way to New York, Washington D.C. and Atlanta.
When the doors opened, Marist HC members Anna Carbone, Stephanie Ruttura, Michelle Savino and I were surrounded by hundreds of HC writers and students from the NYC area. Also mingling with us were other fashion industry leaders, different vendors and HC corporate members. Not to mention performances from SHARP, the all-male acapella group from Columbia University, and rising R&B artist Teenear.
There were several interactive vendor stations that we explored. European Wax Center was there filling in brows (got mine done), Â along with Monthly Gift, Sorel, Jamberry nail bar and People StyleWatch. A highlight of the night was receiving a swag bag filled with goodies from participating vendors.
But truly the prime moment of the night was the Fashion Show. The show featured real girls, not models, and the styles featured on the catwalk were all from Forever 21, making “chic” economically accessible for college women. Even one of Marist’s very own, Francesca Vasta, walked in the event!
Some of the biggest trends we noted from the show were athleisure, 70s glam, and lots of plaid, neutral colors and suede. The event also showcased models with different body types, so every girl in attendance felt beautiful, while getting a crash course in body flattering styles. Of course, it didn’t hurt that the models were styled by an editor from People StyleWatch!
Taking a break from structured academic events, HC’s College Fashion Week was a tremendous success, and everyone there embodied what Her Campus is all about- passion, empowerment and fun.
