Why We Shouldn’t Be Afraid To Fail
“Failure is an act or instance proving unsuccessful, according the Dictionary.com definition. Throughout our lives we have been told what is right and what is wrong. We have learned what consists of success and what is failure based on our action and behaviors. After this, we are graded on performance of how much we achieved. We are held up to certain expectations that we must meet. If we don’t meet these expectations put upon us from others or even ourselves, we our considered a failure.
While it may be important to set goals, it should not be our entire life. When we get wrapped up in these ideas of measurement and what is labeled as success and what is a failure, we forget the whole purpose of why we are doing what we are doing. We can even become afraid to try and achieve our dreams and goals because of the fear that we won’t meet our expectations. Doubt is the number one killer of our dreams because it stems from our powerful minds. When we doubt in our own abilities and don’t try at all, that is when we truly fail. Failure should not come in the way of doing what we love. Sometimes failure can teach you way more than success! Failure should not be the opposite of success. It should be a part of your success. We remember failure because it hurts and leaves a mark, maybe not physically, but it does mentally. We can’t just move on from failure because it makes us think and try harder.
Our world would be nothing without failure. When you think of the most successful people, they didn’t just get to where they were on a whim. They had to learn how to deal with failure and keep moving forward. They didn’t get to a position of success without setbacks. We sometimes believe that greatness is only accomplished through brains. Newsflash: greatness is never truly developed without determination and strength.
In college it is especially important to not get hung up on the idea of failure. Failure does not define you and you should not be afraid of it! It can teach you so much so try and hard you can. The end of the semester is right around the corner so keep trying, and if you don’t achieve everything you wanted, it’s not the end of the world.         Â
