This past spring, SGA (Student Government Association) elections were held and we, as a student body, elected our new 2014-2015 student body president, Duncan Waugaman. Duncan is a junior at Marshall University double majoring in economics and finance. His hopes and dreams include going to law school and someday going into politics.Â
HC: Why did you decide to run for student body president?
Duncan: I’ve been in student government for two years, I started as a freshman. I thought that maybe it was time and I had people approach me and ask if I wanted to be president and said that I would be good at it, so I took their advice and my personal ambition and gave it a try and it worked out.
HC: What are your plans for our university?
Duncan: My main goal is to promote student involvement. We (SGA) don’t just want this to be coming to school and getting a diploma, we want this to be making lifelong friends and connections and joining student organizations and bettering those and we want to make our students more civilized citizens by pushing voter registration and things of that nature.Â
HC: What’s your favorite thing about being president?
Duncan:I get to meet a lot of new people and I really get to be involved with the freshmen class and meet all the students… the office has its perks too!
HC: What are all the activities you are involved in on campus?
Duncan: I’ve stepped back from some of my extracurriculars since becoming president, but I was co-chair for Relay For Life, treasurer for Young Americans for Liberty, and I am an active member of my fraternity, Kappa Alpha.
Duncan has a very outgoing personality and strives to help students become more involved on campus. Be sure to say hello if you ever see him, and remember that he is our voice for the university, so you should never hesitate to report any issues/ideas you have!
