For some, the start of the school year triggers thoughts of fall. While we may be pining for Pumpkin Spice Lattes and autumnal colored leaves, guess what, it’s still summer. Well, until September 23, that is, which leaves plenty of time to enjoy this warm (sweltering) late summer weather.  The campus couldn’t be more beautiful this time of year, and there are a ton of fun things to do before the weather cools down. Time flies, so make sure to cross these activities off of your bucket list!
1. Visit the ODK fountain at night
After the sun has set and the campus is quiet, going to the fountain is always an amazing sight. With a cool breeze in the air, it’s not too warm or too cold, and it’s a perfect time to hang out with your friends and enjoy the last few days of summer. And if you enjoy swimming, you can choose to take a dip! Cross that must-do off your bucket list before it’s freezing.
2. Go on the climbing wall at Eppley Recreation Center
Â
A fun way to exercise while pushing yourself to new heights (literally), the ropes course isn’t something you can do just anywhere.  You can complete it on your own or with a group of friends or classmates, but only during the fall semester!
3. Do homework on the mall
With the start of school comes homework assignments, so if you’re in need of a study space, bring a blanket to McKeldin Mall and hit the books. Who wants to sit inside and do work when you can study up in the shady areas lining the mall?
4. Take a day trip
One of the best parts of going to UMD is that our nation’s capital is only a metro ride away. There’s an endless list of activities to do in the city: going to museums, visiting the monuments and going to a concert or event are just a few. But when it’s raining, snowing or just plain cold, there’s no doubt that the day is not as enjoyable as it could be, so slip on your favorite sundress and some sandals while you still can.
5. Go to a sporting event
We’ve all been to that sports game where it was freezing to the point where you couldn’t feel your fingers or were in a stuffy, packed stadium with thousands of fans. And, needless to say, it wasn’t the most enjoyable. Football and soccer games are some of the most fun sports to watch on campus, and good weather makes the day even better. Supporting your fellow Terps while working on your tan = what could be better?
