It’s finally October and we have to get our priorities straight. Of course there are essays, exams and projects to ace. But we also need to get into the Halloween spirit, which means hours of tuning into some classic Halloween movies.
1. Halloweentown (1998)
This movie takes the top spot as the go-to Halloween movie we all have to watch at some point in our lives. It’s a must. Halloweentown is the original film in the Halloweentown series and one of the best. In this film, we are introduced to Marnie, a teen who helps stop a cruel demon in a town called Halloweentown.
2. Twitches (2005)
Our favorite twins, Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry-Housley, play teenage witches who are adopted after birth, then meet each other later in life. Upon their reunion, both girls begin to discover their magical powers, which they’ll use to fight off an evil spirit known as “the Darkness.”
3. Hocus Pocus (1993)
Three witches known as the Sanderson sisters come back to life after a boy recites a spell that restores their spirits. Once they’re revived, the Sanderson sisters seek to steal souls from kids in order to maintain their youth and eternal life, all while adjusting to a new era, and trying to avoid defeat from a group of kids encouraging their demise.
4. Don’t Look Under the Bed (1999)
Let’s just say, this movie is probably the scariest Disney movie ever. Weird events start happening in a town, prompting the protagonist to get help from her imaginary friend. With the help of him, the main character hunts down the boogeyman that’s been wreaking havoc all throughout town.
5. Casper Meets Wendy (1998)
Hilary Duff was a tween queen who reigned supreme during the ‘90s. She proves her royal status as Wendy, a young witch with loads of potential, who possesses strong powers. However, Desmond, a cruel warlock wants her dead. In order to avoid Desmond, she and her aunts find refuge in a resort, which is where she meets Casper the friendly ghost; a friend who will ultimately help save her from the evil warlock.
6. Matilda (1996)
This film is a classic that always pulls at the heartstrings. Sadly, sweet little Matilda has the worst, most negligent parents. Unbeknownst to them, their little girl has secret powers. Matilda uses her abilities to punish her mean principal, Miss Trunchbull, a woman who belittles Matilda’s teacher (and future adoptive mom) Miss Honey.
7. Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire (2000)
It’s already hard enough for kids to welcome a new person into their immediate families, but it’s even harder to welcome a vampire, as is the dilemma for three kids who realize they’ve accidently matched their mom up with a vampire.
8. Phantom of the Megaplex (2000)
It’s the night of a movie premiere, but it’s not a normal movie premiere. Things get really creepy when strange events start to happen. People begin to disappear and machines break down; it’s just a mess. Soon, all of these connected incidents lead the protagonist, Pete Riley, to assume a phantom is in the theater trying to stir up trouble.
