Name: Adam Vinner
Year: Sophomore
Hometown: Rockville, MD
Major: Mechanical Engineering
What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
I’m in ZBT, Startup Shell, which helps students work on their businesses, and I have my own business, Crab Shell Cases.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I have all of my wisdom teeth.
If you were a Veggie Tales character, what type of veggie would you be?
I’ve never watched Veggie Tales, but I do like broccoli.
What planet best matches your personality?
Is there a planet that is cold on the outside and hot on the inside? I feel like this is a spirit animal question. Cold on the outside, hard to get to know me, but I get warm and open up to you? I don’t actually know what planet that would be [laughs].
How about your celebrity crush?
Jennifer Aniston, that’s easy.
What’s your best pickup line?
Do you know how much does a polar bear weighs? Neither do I, but it’s enough to make the ice break!
What’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever done for a girl?
There was a girl who was very upset, stressing out over exams, and even though I also had exams, I bought her a big thing of Lindt truffles and drove to her house and surprised her with them.
Now onto more serious questions: tell me about your business.
First off, there’s Club Hot Sauce, which is a subscription food delivery service where you sign up to receive a mystery box of assorted hot sauces, and all proceeds go to Save the Kids.
The other one is Crab Shell Cases. We are a promotional product company specializing in custom phone cases, and we’re currently working with on campus organizations to help them with their merchandising.
What got you interested in business?
So I’ve never really been a big fan of big business corporations, but I was really attracted to entrepreneurship because you’re creating the future. When you create a startup you are betting that your idea will catch on and become widely accepted and I think that’s really cool.
What inspired you to start this particular business?
Experience is the best teacher and starting these ventures has thrown me into situations that I’d never thought I’d been in and I’ve had to improvise and learn through the experiences.
Where do you see this business going?
We’ll see what happens.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
In 20 years…um…I’ll be 39: married with hopefully a family and like a job, we’ll say. But I dunno.
