If you’re craving some extreme shopping, awesome restaurants, and a busy city street, look no further than Georgetown! A city known nationally for its elegance and prestigious housed university, it is a quick classy place to visit. An easy metro ride away will give you a day’s worth of fun. Read on to find out the logistics of a day trip to Georgetown.
How?: Hop on the metro to College Park and take it all the way to the Foggy Bottom-GWU stop. Account for some time on this trip because you’ll have to make several connections. Also, getting to M street is about a 10 minute walk from the metro stop. However, if you have friends at the George Washington University, be sure to call them up because the metro station will land you right on their campus! If you prefer to extend your trip, get off at the Dupont Circle metro stop. Here, you’ll be able to visit a different variety of resturants and shops. Enjoy a longer walk to Georgetown where you’ll be able to see the residential side of the NW also.
What?: My personal favorite thing to do in Georgetown is shop! All up and down M street are shops just waiting for you to walk in. There you will find a huge Urban Outfitters, H&M, and Anthropologie. Also, check out some specialty shops, like Cusp, for a mix of designer goods and cheaper, fashionable finds. Georgetown participates in “Fashion’s Night Out” every September. A great number of deals and give-aways are featured on this night for shoppers’ to come out and enjoy the city. If you are not feeling shopping that day, Georgetown sits right on the Georgetown Waterfront Park. Take a stroll down to the edge of the city (you can’t miss it!) and take a relaxing rest there. There’s a lot of sitting areas and with a Hershey’s Ice Cream shop right by the entrance of the park, it’s simple to grab a snack before.
Food?: Everyone knows Georgetown Cupcakes, of couse, but what if the line is wrapped all the way around the street? Check out Sprinkles Cupcakes, another cupcake bakery, for your sweet tooth fix. If you want to do some gourmet grocery shopping, check out Dean and DeLuca. For a meal, there are options for everything from pizza to Vietnamese, and steakhouses to French food. The city has some great restaurants, such as Paper Moon that has an abundant amount of pasta and seafood options. Moderately priced, it is a casual place to sit outside for a shopping break or inside for an elegant date night dinner. If you prefer something organic, there is a Whole Foods right by the Foggy Bottom-GWU metro station. You can pick up a plate and select whatever you’d like to eat. It goes by the pound, so you can choose as much or as little as you’d like.
So there you have it, a perfectly planned out day trip to Georgetown! You can look forward to lots of people in the streets and beautiful music being played at every corner. Georgetown is the perfect choice for a low-key day when you have some time to get away from College Park.
