Imagine it. You are a freshman girl (or boy), fresh out of private school, a place where an overly conservative school board handpicked your day-to-day attire for you. The clothing you wore predominantly included school colors and only a handful of fabric. This was me three long years ago.
Life was fab! I’d wake up at 7:48am, put on my summer or winter kilt and an over-sized bleach white polo, throw my hair in a bun and call it a day. I would grab my iced vanilla latte to go with my protein bar and packed lunch, ready to carpe that diem! I would arrive at school seven to15 minutes late each day, but that was ok! At least I did not have to focus on what I was wearing.
Eventually having entered the freedom to dress myself, I sometimes hit a wall in terms of style. That’s when I discovered, wait for it… FASHION BLOGS! Yes that’s right readers. I was that girl who searched the Internet tirelessly for fashion trends, spent hours obsessing over clothing and makeup hauls on YouTube and bought every fashion magazine in site. Fashion blogs literally saved my social life. Now, with all the knowledge I’ve amassed since my polo and kilt days, I’m here to shed some light on how to start your very own fashion blog in four easy steps!
Step 1. Get some style
This is SO important! Nobody wants to read about some slacker who doesn’t care about mixing trends with timeless pieces or can’t decipher Forever21 from Anthropologie!
Step 2. Find your niche
With so many up-and-coming fashionable people out there, it will be hard at first to stand out amongst the uber saturated market as is. Finding a niche will help you target your audience. They’ll know exactly what to expect from their newest favorite blogger.

Step 3. Define your voice
Are you going to be hysterically witty and original? Or are you going to keep your editorial short and sweet? Readers are especially able to connect with their bloggers and continue returning to their content when they legitimately love reading about what those bloggers have been up to!
Step 4. Keep it fun!
You probably are doing this because you want to express yourself in a creative outlet, and have some extra time on your hands. That’s great! Blogging incorporates so many different aspects that allow you to release your creative juices. From writing content, to striking a pose, to final flat lay edits of your fav accessories, blogging really can cover it all.
Now go out there, get some ideas, build up some content and start sharing with the social media world your unique voice! There are girls and boys who really need your wisdom!
