As an abroad student in Florence, I have the once in a lifetime opportunity of traveling all over Europe each weekend. After a week of exploring the culture of Florence, including the daily and nightly fashion of abroad students as well as Italians, I’m off to a new country or city to see a fresh and different culture.
This weekend I went to Interlaken in the Swiss Alps. Before I even begin to explain the trends that I found in Switzerland, I have to let you in on a secret. Interlaken is one of the most beautiful places that anyone will ever get the chance of visiting. The views are straight off of a postcard and no matter where you turn, there are mountains everywhere. And of course, what comes along with a weekend in the mountains other than trendy and adorable snow bunny outfits.
As beautiful as it was there, the weather was very cold and often times it was snowing. Almost all of the abroad students there, whether they were from Florence, Rome or even Barcelona, wore the same types of trends throughout the weekend. Most were wearing their warmest leggings, paired with combat boots (or Uggs if they thought ahead when packing to come abroad,) and a warm oversized sweater. These sweaters included, plain cashmere sweaters in a variety of colors, as well as knit and patterned sweaters.
Of course, there were typical winter accessories as well. Many girls rocked the knit earband with some sort of flower or bow on the side in various colors or the ever so popular knit beanie, like those found in Urban Outfitters and all different types of scarves. The majority found on the slopes and throughout the various winter activities such as canyon jumping and paragliding were thick knit eternity scarves that added a pop of color to each outfit, yet kept you warm at the same time. To top off the entire look, a long puffy jacket or peacoat was a must in order to look the part and be warm at the same time.
I found that it was easy to dress in a warm, yet trendy style in Interlaken having all the right pieces for the outfit from my time in Maryland. The style was simple basics when it came to clothes and all the fun and current trends fell right into place with the fun accessories added to each outfit.
