5 Flower Pot DIYs For Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marymount chapter.

I know what you must be thinking, “Is this a joke?,” and the answer to that question would be… NO! These days, flower pot crafts are not just for kids but for people of any age. Whether you are five or sixty-five you will be sure to have fun making these five festive flower pots.

1. The Gumball Machine: One day while I was watching YouTube I came across this adorable flower pot DIY. It is representative of a classic gumball machine, but can be filled with any Valentine’s Day candy. What you will need to achieve this is a flower pot with a removable bottom plate, red or pink paint, some Valentine’s Day ribbon, stickers or white paint, a glass jar, and a white pom pom (optional). First, begin by painting your flower pot and it’s base the desired color. Allow it to dry. Second, with a hot glue gun or super glue, flip your flower pot upside down and hot glue gun the bottom of the glass jar to the bottom of your flower pot.  Then, you can decorate your flower pot with stickers, more paint, ribbon or whatever your heart desires. Once complete, and fully dry, fill up the glass jar with your favorite Valentine’s Day candy, place the base from the flower pot on top, attatch the white pom pom to the top, if you want, and then, you are ready to enjoy your adorable Valentines Day creation!

2. The Cookie Jar: This Valentine’s Day why not give an original treat in style? This flower pot DIY is a unique take on the classic cookie jar. For this creation you will, once again, need a flower pot, a small wooden craft ball, red and pink paint, stickers or other decorating supplies, and a second flower pot base (optional). The first step you will want to do, is to paint your flower pot and its base or bases, if you desire to have the bottom like the one shown in the picture above.  Once they are dry attatch a wooden craft ball, preferably with a flat bottom, to the bottom side of the base to the flower pot. This will serve as a handle for your cookie jar lid. After making sure everything is secure and dry, decorate your flower pot as you please and voila! You have created an adorable cookie jar you can fill with treats, give away, or keep for yourself.

3. The Tabletop Cupid: This adoable flower pot is the perfect tabletopper or shelf decoration. Also, it may look complicated, but most craft stores sell it in a kit that you just have to assemble. First, you will want to paint your flower pot and any of its pieces if it hasn’t already been done. Next, flip the pot upside down and attatch everything according to the directions or as shown above. After that, all you have to do is decorate. Once complete this cutie can be placed as a centerpiece on a table or on a shelf in your room.

4. Party Favor or Gift Basket: Simple, easy, and thoughtful are the three words I have for this Valentine’s Day gift. It’s so easy to make and is something anyone would love as a present. To start, pick out whatever size flower pot you want to use. Then, decorate it how you’d like or with who’s receiving the gift in mind. After it has dried it can be filled with virtually anything, like gift cards or someone’s favorite candy. This simple DIY makes the perfect gift for anyone in your life!

5. Makeup Brush Holder: Lastly, we have this creative makeup brush holder. It can be decorated specifically fo Valentine’s Day or become an item you will use year round. For this you will need: a flower pot, paint, ribbon, and bead fillers. First, paint and decorate your pot as desired. I also reccomend gluing the base to the flower pot, if it came with one. After this you can tie a cute bow with some ribbon and attach it to the top rim. Once complete, poor in the vase filler beads and arrange your makeup brushes how you like. Now, you will no longer have to go digging through your drawers to find what brush you need! Getting ready this Valentine’s Day will be the easiest it has ever been.

6. Bonus!!!: This bonus DIY is for all of my single ladies out there (*cue the BeyoncĂ©*). This Valentine’s Day why not build your own boyfriend! Gather as many flower pots as you can, varying in size, and then wire them together in the shape of a person and there you have it, your very own flower pot boyfriend! JUST KIDDING! But this DIY makes a very unique and cute garden decor. He can even be dressed up according to the season!

So collegiettes, I hope you enjoyed these cute crafts and that you will try out at least one this Valentine’s Day!
