These days, the whole world seems so concerned with the more serious aspects of life that it seems we’ve all forgotten to have a little fun. Life at McGill only exacerbates this feeling when midterms take hold. So, instead of focusing on the unrelenting misery that accompanies the McGill midterm gloom, here are some activities right in Montreal that you can embark upon to shake off all the stress, sadness and general cold-weather melancholy.
- Oasis Surf: Eat, surf and drink at one of the coolest places Montreal has to offer. Oasis Surf is the most unusual combination of an indoor surf stream and  restaurant, so you can spend your night surfing then devouring the delectable food they have to offer. The best part? They have amazing deals every day, including taco night on Mondays (uhm, yum) and girls’ nights on Wednesdays. Plus every Monday-Friday is 5@7 happy hour with two for one drinks, so who could say no?
- Chez Serge: This bar is reminiscent of the deep south, and the soundtrack is the best the 2000âs had to offer. Despite the already cool aura of the place, this is so much more than just a place to get drinks. Chez Serge has a mechanical bull that you can ride for free, and a âspin the wheelâ that consists of amazing prizes: free shots, pitchers, or a spanking by their in-house dominatrix (a little less appealing!) This is the best place to come and let loose. Just save it for an after-midterm celebration, not one the night before! Â
- Isaute Trampoline: Dedicated to trampolines, Isaute is the perfect place to come and bounce away your troubles. Isaute is located in Montreal East, a little far, but split an Uber with your friends or grab the metro to get there cheaply. We all know exercise boosts endorphins and gets you feeling happy, but when you pair that with trampolines, your best friends and reminiscing over your childhood, Isaute is bound to get you beaming.
- Cloakroom: Hidden away, this gem stirs up a James Bond meets Speakeasy atmosphere and will be sure to leave you feeling mysterious as you sip on a custom-made cocktail behind a hidden door. Thereâs no menu, instead the bartenders ask what you like: spirits, flavours, spices and stir up a concoction based on your preferences!
- Bota Bota: By now youâve probably heard of Bota Bota. The spa on a boat thatâs suspended on the river down in the rustic Old Port. In the midst of midterms, this is the perfect place to go and get your midterm tension massaged away. There is a vast array of options to choose from: 3 course meals, massages and a variety of baths. If youâre short on cash, you can still get your relaxation on; just get the water circuit, and enjoy a glass of champagne while overlooking the beautiful city we reside in. And remember, despite midterms, itâs all going to be ok.
