Her Campus is pleased to announce that our Collegiette of the Month is Alexandra Sakellariou! She’s our resident GIF expert, and has contributed to Her Campus McGill immensely this year through her sassy, interesting, and relevant articles. Read on to find out what makes this writer tick!
The Basics:
Year: Second Year, U1Hometown: White Rock, BCProgram: Joint Honors Political Science and Philosophy with a minor in Sexual Diversity Studies Favorite library at McGill: McLennan, sixth floor. It’s honestly my second home. Favorite place to get food at McGill: Tim Hortons in Repath. Yes I do realize that it technically is not there anymore, but I have high hopes McGill will restore that cafeteria to its rightful glory.Â
Esther Vinarov for Her Campus McGill (HC McGill): How did you get involved with Her Campus McGill?Alexandra Sakellariou (AS): I read Her Campus McGill articles all throughout my first year and then during the summer I found out through Facebook that they were looking for writers. I sent in a sample of some of my work and now I’m here!HC McGill: What has been your favorite article to write so far, and why?AS: Probably “How I Know My Neighbour is a Vampire.” I love being sarcastic and satirical in my writing and this was the perfect topic to do just that. I also just love making fun of popular culture. Plus I got to experiment with GIFs for the first time. I probably spent more time picking those out than I did actually writing the article.HC McGill: Are you involved with any other extracurricular activities on campus?AS: I’m on the Public Relations Committee for Friends of Medecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders). I’m also an avid user of Netflix. Other than that I study. A lot.HC McGill: What is the absolute craziest thing you’ve done while at McGill?AS: I spent almost about a month’s rent on a shopping spree after finals last semester. I took the saying “reward yourself” to a whole new level that day.HC McGill: If you were sorted into a house at Hogwarts, which house would you be in?AS: I have seen Harry Potter, but I’m not familiar with it enough to give you a good answer to that question. Besides, I’d rather be in Narnia.HC McGill: Who are your guy and girl celebrity crushes?AS: For guys, I’m going to have to say Leonardo Dicaprio especially in his Titanic days. Jack Dawson will always be my first love. For girls, Sarah Michelle Gellar. I’m such a hardcore Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan that it’s a no-brainer. Plus she always has perfect hair.HC McGill: What’s one secret hidden talent of yours?
AS: When I sing and play piano people don’t run in the opposite direction, instead they usually tell me I’m pretty decent at music. Also, I can do a really good Jenna Marbles face.HC McGill: What’s one thing you miss from home that you wish existed in Montreal?AS: The beach! I never knew how much I actually liked it until I moved away from it. And the whole fact that it hardly snows where I’m from. I don’t think I can survive another Montreal winter.HC McGill: What’s your favorite song on the new Taylor Swift album? Or, how do you feel about Taylor Swift in general?I don’t really listen to Taylor Swift all the much. I’ll admit she’s extremely talented- she knows how to write a catchy song and can definitely sing. Her songs are good for breakups. Props to her for calling John Mayer out blatantly in “Dear John.” That’s probably my favorite song of hers.
