If you’re anything like me, the beginning of the new year is a very exciting time. You’ve got new year’s resolutions ready to fulfill, you’ve got an invincible motivation for the new semester; it seems as though the sky is truly the limit for what you can accomplish during these next 365 days. I’m here to tell you that this is 100% true. And what better way to recognize these memories than by making your very own, personal memory jar? Here’s how it works:
1. Go to your local craft store and buy a clear glass jar. Mason jars tend to work out very well.
2. Customizing your jar is key! There a few ways you can go about doing this. My personal favorite is using mod podge to tint your jar a certain color. To do this, you can buy mod podge either already colored or you can buy it plain and add food dye to color it. First, make sure to preheat your oven to 200 degrees Farenheit. Pour a generous amount of the mod podge into your jar and swirl it around until it covers all of the glass on the inside. Next, place your jar upside down on cardboard and let the excess mod podge drip our. Then, turn your jar upright and place it in the oven. Bake for 30-45 minutes. Let cool. The result should be a nicely tinted mason jar!
3. Another option for customizing is swirling glue around on the inside of your jar and pasting different colored strips of paper, glitter, or anything else! You can customize further by adding stickers or writing on your jar in sharpie.
4. Create a slit in the top cap of your mason jar to act as a paper slot.
Â
Now you’re ready to fill it up with memories! Every time anything good happens to you during 2015, take time out of your day to write it on a little piece of paper, fold it up, and slip it into your jar. At the end of the year, dump out all of your memories and reminisce on all of the amazing times you’ve had in the past year!
