Farleyco, a health and beauty product supplier, recently sent HerCampus McGill some fun products to try out, including a bunch of face masks, dry shampoo, hair chalk, and much more! Today, I am going to talk about two of the hair products they sent us, the Splat Hair Chalk and the Colab Dry Shampoo.

Splat Hair Chalk

Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to love it, the hair chalk was a definite miss for me. When I first applied it, the color was quite pigmented, but it faded faster than my motivation to study for midterms did, leaving a silvery-grey cast on my hair that looked more like I had put in too much dry shampoo than used hair chalk to purposely color it. On top of that, the combination of using hairspray and chalk on top of it left the consistency of my hair very brittle and tangled, something that didn’t seem to go away no matter how much I brushed it. The good news? The situation washed out easily in the shower. If you do get the color and texture to work for you, you can rest assured knowing it will come out in the shower later.

Colab Dry Shampoo

The dry shampoo, on the other hand, was terrific. It absorbed all the excess oils from my hair without leaving the dreaded white cast that often accompanies dry shampoo. You do have to make sure you’re spraying the product from far enough away (the instructions recommend 20cm) and not applying too much in one concentrated area though because it will add up quickly. That being said, a little of this product goes a long way, so you don’t have to use as much as you think.

All four of the fragrances I tried, the oriental Tokyo, the classic London, the tropical Rio, and the fruity New York, smelled great and they were all quite different so you have a variety to choose from. I would recommend letting the product sit in your hair for a minute or two before you massage it and brush it out because this will give it ample time to absorb all the oils from your hair. If you know in advance that you won’t have time to wash your hair, you can also spray this in and leave it overnight before massaging and brushing it out, a trick that I’ve learned is effective in getting the clean appearance you’re going for if you don’t have enough time to actually wash your hair.
