Hollywood Takes McGill: New RBG Film is Shooting on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

Lights, Camera, Action…at McGill! From this past weekend until to the beginning of November, a movie based on the United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG) is being filmed at McGill University.

The film, titled “On the Basis of Sex,” will star Felicity Jones as the protagonist and Armie Hammer as Marty Ginsburg, RBG’s late husband. The film does not have a release date, but it does have the distinction of making the Black List – a list of the best-unproduced screenplays in Hollywood.

RBG has been known to be a strong liberal voter and feminist since her appointment in 1993, according to NBC News. She has remained a critical voice against Donald Trump during his presidency.

According to an email sent out to the McGill community, filming takes place in various locations over weekends in order to not disrupt courses. The dates and locations are listed below:

Sept 30-Oct 1:

Saturday: Macdonald Harrington and Old Chancellor Day Hall

Sunday: Redpath Hall and the Arts Lobby

October 28:

McConnell Engineering

Nov 4-5:

Saturday: Redpath Museum and Leacock

Sunday: Protest scene at James Square
