Restaurant Roundup: Icehouse

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

If you’re looking for Tex-Mex comfort food and/or a delicious bourbon lemonade, head to Icehouse in the Plateau. Located at 51 Rue Roy E, Icehouse is a small restaurant with a lot of character, and its space almost doubles in the summer with a great patio deck.

Icehouse’s menu is written on the chalkboard walls above the small bar, and the prices are relatively reasonable for the quality of the food. My boyfriend and I decided to try a couple of their items as well as a bourbon lemonade and Maker’s Mark on the rocks.

One cool thing about Icehouse is its casual nature, you don’t use plates or much cutlery. Brown parchment paper is put on the table right before your food comes.

The absolute best things we had was the bourbon lemonade (I’ve mentioned it three times now for a reason), the fish tacos, and the side of potato salad. The potato salad was smokey and unique from any other types I’ve had before, and the fish tacos were perfectly balanced with their delicious fried fish and vegetables.

We ordered a small bucket of fried chicken as well, which they slammed onto the brown parchment paper alongside a plate of coleslaw and the amazing potato salad.

We also decided to try the steak and poblano pepper burrito which also had french fries in it, so obviously it was the bomb. Everything was truly delicious and we were so full by the end we had to take some leftovers home that were consumed later that night.

I recommend Icehouse to anyone who is craving some delicious tacos, burritos, or fried chicken. It’s a great place to grab a full meal or just some quick comfort food. Keep in mind that it isn’t the cheapest place in Montreal, but the prices are reasonable, and it’s definitely worth a visit!
