What Are They, Where Did They Come From, and Why is Everyone Obsessed: Moth Memes Uncovered

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

They’re everywhere, and we have questions.

For the past couple of months, if you’ve been on any form of social media at all, you would have seen these little flying friends and their memes, I’m here to tell you who they are, why they are and what they are.

On July 14th, 2018 a Reddit user posted a picture of a moth outside of their window, and that’s where it all started. People started making jokes and memes out of that picture because nothing beats the way a moth loves themselves a lamp. Moths and lamps are actual relationship goals, nothing compares.

After that, the Internet went crazy, making memes and even videos from all sorts of moth pictures because everyone wants to be a lamp to someone’s moth. Entire accounts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have cropped up in honour of the moth memes, with no shortage of bad jokes, conspiracy theories and elaborate back-stories.

And how could I finish this off without some of the best moth memes ever, you either love them or hate ’em!
