Why You Have to go to Osheaga This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

The summer is almost upon us! Time to ditch those Canada Goose jackets and winter boots for some tank tops, shorts, and flip flops! The warm weather is exciting as it is, but what makes the summer even more exciting is the endless possibilities of activities you can get involved in. One such activity that thousands of Montrealers and people from around the world are taking part in is Osheaga, a three day music festival held at Parc Jean Drapeau in Montreal this summer. The festival features hundreds of talented, big name bands and musicians all peforming at one of the many stages set up around the island. This summer marks Osheaga’s 10th anniversary and the lineup is bigger and better than ever! With headliners including Florence and the Machine, The Black Keys, and Kendrick Lamar among others, this year’s festival is sure to be one of the best years yet! If I haven’t convinced you to go already (which is unlikely, am I right?), let me just list off a few more reasons why Osheaga is somewhere you want need to be this summer:

1. THE MUSIC

Just to reiterate, the lineup for this summer is AMAZING! What other place can you go that has so many of your favorite musicians in one place? The only downside (I don’t even think this constitutes as a “down” side) is choosing who you want to see! Since there are so many bands and artists, some of your favorites are bound to overlap, but if you plan correctly, you can definitely make all of their shows. With so many artists performing, you’re also guaranteed to discover new music to fall in love with.

2. THE PRICE

Okay, honestly, think about it: If you were going to go to see The Black Keys in concert, how much would tickets cost for a good seat? Probably a lot. With Osheaga, you pay one flat price to essentially see hundreds of different artists perform. That’s a LOT of bang for your buck. The three day tickets this year are around $280 CAD (much cheaper if you’re an American due to the current exchange rate). If you aren’t willing to pay for all three days, you can also get individual day passes which are sold separately at a cheaper price. The only other things you spend money on are drinks, housing (unless you have an apartment in Montreal already, which most McGill students do), and a fun souvenir, like a t-shirt, to always remember your weekend at Osheaga.

3. THE EXPERIENCE

There’s nothing quite like going to a music festival; it’s a totally different musical experience. The energy of the crowds, the universal love for music, the crazy stories you’ll be able to take back home with you, the unforgettable memories with your friends; its unlike anything else. And it’ll only leave you wanting to come back next year. And since it’s the 10th anniversary, who knows what kinds of surprises will be in store for us! So, get your outfits together, grab some friends, and get ready to scream your head off and have the time of your life at Osheaga this summer.
