The Her Campus McGill team had an amazing time celebrating our 4th birthday on March 13! We had giveaways and goodie bags for our team members from different companies including some cute legwarmers and knee-high socks from Boot Cuffs and Socks. I had the pleasure of interviewing the creator of the company, Ghita Yassa.Â
Alexandra Faure for Her Campus McGill (HC McGill): When did you start this company?
Ghita Yassa (GH): I started my company Boot Cuffs & Socks in November of 2014 and launched our online store in late December 2014.
Â
HC McGill:Â How did you originally get the idea for your business?
GH: I have always knitted my own socks and other accessories. Knitting was my first hobby since I was five years old, so I thought why not make a new style of boot socks and sell them online.
HC McGill:Â Where do you envision your company to be in five years?
GH: I envision my company to be in major fashion retail stores and more. Any company that is selling boots and looking to provide a better shopping experience to their clients will seek opportunities with my company.
HC McGill:Â You say your customers can contact you via text message. That is an unusual type of medium to communicate with your customers. Any reason why you chose to add that as a way of information?
GH: I want my clients to feel like they are shopping from a real shop just like if they are shopping from their next door store, and feel that there is a person behind the shop who is ready to help at any time, and so far my clients’ impressions are very positive.
Â
HC McGill:Â Why and how did you choose to sell boot cuffs and boot socks?
GH: When I see women wearing boots without boot cuffs I feel like something’s missing from her outfit. My boot cuffs and socks add a charming look.
HC McGill:Â Are all the items in your original and/or handmade?
GH: All items are done by me and I use a knitting machine to make the majority of my products.
HC McGill:Â I see that you now ship outside of the U.S. and Canada, is this a sign of exponential growth?
GH: The best thing about selling online is that there is no frontier. I use Google, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms to market my products all over the world.
Â
HC McGill:Â How have you spread the word about your company?
GH: Well this task will never end. I am doing all my best to advertise my company online. I am trying to come out with the best marketing strategy that will be effective, but inexpensive.
HC McGill:Do you have any advice for our readers who wish to enter into the entrepreneur world?
GH: If you have an idea, take that decisive step and follow it up with sensible judgment, and be determined. Some people succeed because they are destined to, but most people succeed because they are determined to.
