Name: Patrick Hobbs
Major: Technical Communication, minors in photography and journalism
Organizations involved on campus: The Cluster, Ballroom Dance Club
Favorite thing about Mercer:
I take a lot of photos of a lot of events on campus. I sometimes shoot two or three in the same afternoon. I can honestly say that I never get bored; the campus activities and organizations are so vibrant and varied that going to all of them doesn’t get old. Every one is unique.
Favorite professor:
Dr. Jay Black (JMS department): He can be really frustrating in the classroom, but my favorite moments with him happen outside the classroom. I view him as more of a mentor than a teacher.

How do you define success?
Well, for me its all about the recognition of my work. I try not to shove my photos or stories in peoples faces. So, if a stray compliment comes my way, it makes it all the more sweet. In the long run, I really would like one of my photos to change people’s lives for the better, but I don’t think that’ll happen for a long time.

Tips on being a Mercerarian:
I’m friends with a lot of people who bury themselves in their studies or whose definition of Mercer is their immediate academic bubble. Mercer has so much more to offer than an just good education. I think it is very important to expose oneself to things that take you out of your comfort zone.
