As college students, I’m sure food is one of our favorite words to hear. The officials at our schools know to boost attendance at events, free food should always be an offer. However, as much as we love food, there are some foods that you inevitably get sick of. But you know what? Don’t be too hard on these foods. They can’t help their irritating nature. But you can! Here are a few ways to help spice up your diet!
First, let’s start with the most quintessentially college food there is: Ramen noodles. You’ve eaten them, I’ve eaten them, we’ve all eaten them. Sad, but true. Now, don’t get me wrong, the first few weeks of ramen weren’t so bad. But about a month in, I couldn’t take anymore. And I’m sure we’ve all felt that way. Now there are a couple of ways to rectify this. You can start by trying different flavors, because contrary to popular belief, all of the flavors do not taste the same. Also, you can add your own herbs and spices, make your own flavor! Be creative! Take it a step further by adding fresh veggies! If you put them in the microwave, while the soup cooks, the veggies will steam and absorbs all the flavors.
Another food I’m sure you have very often: pizza. I know I have it all the time. Some days more than once. They have it in the caf and some weekends my friends and I order it for movie nights. You know what you can do to make your pizza choices different? Try different toppings. Just last night, my friends and I tried a new topping on our pizza! It was great! We spiced up our normal, mundane Saturday night with the addition of sausage. Brilliant. Another way to step out of the box is trying a new pizza place. There are a lot of local pizzerias that offer a variety of toppings and ways to order!
There is no way of getting around the caf food, especially if you live on campus Actually, though, there is so much to do. If you’re anything like me, you mostly eat the same thing in the caf. However there are so many options to choose from. Have you tried having a sandwich made? Have you ever opted for a personalized omelet? Have a custom bowl of pasta? Did you even know these were options? Well they are. Also, trying more of the options helps to end the food rut you’re in. Also, when in doubt, break up the monotony with a bowl of cereal.
As college students, we all know snacks are the key to success. We need them in between meals, during studying, and just after a long, bad day. If you’re anything like me, you always buy the same things. So why not mix it up a bit? Change chip flavors. Buy a new kind of pastry. Experiment with juices. Be adventurous and go for the healthier snacks. Greek yogurt and protein bars will keep you satisfied, and they will give you the nutrients you need to get though your day.
Food is a necessary part of life. We have to eat. So why not enjoy the food we eat? Make cool combinations, try new things, and make your eating experience that much better. With these few easy tips, you can do just that.
