Over these past few years, Demi Lovato has overcome many difficult challenges in her life. She struggled with cutting, bulimia and depression, which all stemmed from when being bullied as a child. Demi states that she was called fat constantly as a child so much that she eventually had to be taken out of school. Children used to write “hate petitions” about her and even bashed her demo CDs.
Lovato finally realized that she couldn’t live like this anymore and decided to get treatment in 2010. The treatment has drastically changed her life for the better. She says that each day is a struggle, but she is getting through it with the help of her family and friends. Demi got a tattoo across her wrists with the words “stay strong”. Music has also kept her strong as well.
Lovato never considered herself a role model nor did she want to be one, but now that has changed. She says that she would like to raise awareness of bullying because people don’t realize how badly that verbal harassment and cyber bullying affects you. Lovato takes part in many anti- bullying campaigns as well as raising awareness about her own personal issues. She continues to share her story with others, while connecting with girls who have had similar experiences.
Since treatment, Demi Lovato has been working on her music. She had an album released in 2011 titled “Unbroken.” Her next album comes out May 14th, so be sure to check it out!
