Glee’s Early Ending

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Merrimack chapter.

Premiering in 2009, Glee captivated the hearts of so many people; from young high schoolers even to adults, the show about a group of high school students in a Glee club seemed to catch the attention of a unique group of people.

For many of us, the news of cast member Cory Montieth’s death in July of this year came as much of a surprise and disappointment. His character Finn has been an important part of Glee’s story line from the beginning and it is now difficult to move on in a new direction.

This previous week it was reported by Glee’s writer and co-creator Ryan Murphy that their 2014 season 6 would be their final season of the show. Although this disappoints many fans, it makes sense because of the idea Ryan Murphy had in ending the series finale. He says “I knew what the last shot was, he was in it. I knew what the last line that she [Rachel] said it to him,” making it difficult for him and the other writers to prolong a story line that had a different outcome than intended; this all led to a shortened ending of the series.

Although the death of Finn caused the ending to change in Ryan Murphy’s eyes, he says that the final season will still be “designed around Rachel and Finn’s story.” This will give fans of Finn Hudson something to look forward to in the future of Glee despite the disappointing ending of his life and of the series.
