Often times when students at Merrimack are asked where they are from, the area is pretty local. However, this week’s Campus Celeb has an answer quite different than that. When interviewing Max Zhang, he said he was from “The head of the chicken!” Quite confused by that answer, he elaborated by saying China, his home country is shaped like a chicken. His hometown Shenyang is located in the upper right hand, or head, of the country. Max came here last year since it has always been a dream. Being at Merrimack, he is making his own American Dream a reality.
Max, also known as Bingo, and better known as Mr. Merrimack has become quite recognizable over his last year here. Max is often seen sporting a shirt and tie, which he states is God’s gift to Earth and prides himself in looking nice. Originally he felt uncomfortable wearing this attire while peers wore sweatpants, but states after winning Mr. Merrimack this past fall he has gained the confidence to not only wear, but rock the nice clothing look. His voice of an angel and magnetic personality made him an outstanding candidate for Mr. Merrimack, essentially shutting out all competition.
Aside from being Mr. Merrimack, Max has a lot going on in his life, as a business marketing major. Max strives to get great grades in the classroom and outside of the classroom helps other Chinese students succeed in marketing as well by being a teaching assistant. He is also a member of The Student Government Association and on the E-board as the Member at Large. He is a World Peer, acting as an individual to help international students get better acquainted with both Merrimack and American culture as a whole. When Max isn’t out and about he can be found in his townhouse, where he is a Resident Advisor of the Tyngsboro and Pelham houses.
Although this is a slower paced lifestyle than in China, Max Zhang has definitely found ways to keep busy here in America. He lives life to the fullest and can always be seen with a contagious smile. He has a great outlook on life , which he says everyday is the best experience of his life, an attitude he gained from the M.O.R.E. trip (go on it!)
