Merrimack’s very own Green Team, takes the spotlight on campus. The Green Team, was founded in 2008, which consists of students working towards a common goal of maintaining a more sustainable campus.
The club’s President, Autumn Linteau, says, “The Green Team’s main goal is to conduct projects on campus that help improve the ascetic view of the campus, as well as making it more sustainable.”
Linteau mentioned that currently one of the biggest projects that the Green Team has going on is recycling.
Each academic and dorm building has recycling, so it takes a lot of time and effort to get the job done. It’s not just running programs that the Green Team sponsors, they are behind various events held throughout the semester.
One of those events is “Clean Up Day,” which will be campus-wide during spring semester. The Green Team, along with anyone that wants to get involved, will clean up all the trash around campus and bring it to one location to display how much garbage is accumulated in one day.
Another will be on October 16th called “Weigh Your Waste Day.” During breakfast at Sparky’s the team will be partnering with Sodexo to raise awareness. Sodexo is a company that the school has partnered with to perform sustainability programs. Linteau has high hopes to start a project to get Sodexo involved with composting in the near future.
The Green Team is off to a great start this semester by helping Merrimack become aware of going green and helping the community.
