It is around this time of year that complaints and criticisms of Valentine’s Day begin to flood your social media timelines and make their way onto Facebook feeds. The general feedback seems to be a complaint towards the lack of romantic relationships in one’s life and insistence that they will be ‘forever alone’. These kinds of things are everywhere. But who’s to say that Valentine’s Day is only for couples? This holiday, do something nice for yourself. Buy a new pair of shoes! Have a spa day! In the wise words of Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle, “Treat yo’ self!”.
-
Grab some coffee.
Especially on a day that you may be expecting to wear you out (like Valentine’s Day), it is so important to make sure that it starts off on the right foot. By making time to get yourself a nice, delicious drink in the morning, not only will the caffeine offer an energy boost, your day then begins on a positive note. This is a small and relatively cheap way in which you can treat yo’ self.
-
Celebrate with a sweet treat.
Don’t have extra time in the morning to stop at your local coffee shop? No worries! At the end of your busy day, stop off at your local ice cream or FroYo joint and treat yo’ self. It’s not everyday that you get to indulge in a guilt-free dessert, so use this Valentine’s Day to let yourself off of the hook and eat as many sweet treats as you want – but don’t get a stomach ache.
-
Make a playlist.
Music is powerful. It has the ability to switch your mood from happy to sad, or vice versa. A stellar playlist to listen to throughout your day has an incredible potential to boost your mood and offer you the perfect way to maintain it from morning to afternoon. Have some extra time? Treat yo’ self to your very own dance party to release endorphins and energy and create some good vibes.
-
Have a spa day.
Maybe you’re lucky and have a less-hectic schedule this Valentine’s Day, in which you can do all of the activities mentioned above. If not, treat yo’ self to a spa day in which the entire holiday is solely dedicated to you. Your local drugstore will have a plethora of cheap face masks, essential oils, bath bubbles, and whatever else you’ll need for a day of complete self-care and relaxation. At the end of the day your body will thank you and your mind will be ready to take on the rest of the week.
-
Watch the sunrise/sunset.
Treat yo’ self to the cheap and easy gift of relaxing in a peaceful spot and watching the sun go down. If the antics and celebrations of Valentine’s Day is a true source of stress, watching darkness fall as the sun gradually sets symbolizes the coming of a new day, and may ease some of this holiday’s symptoms. If it’s not, the tranquility of silently viewing a sunset is a great way to end your day on a positive note and get ready for the next.
