Best Summer Beach Reads

Is there anything better then reclining in your favorite beach chair, digging your toes into the sand, and cracking open a good read? Summer’s calling, and that means no more projects, tests, or teachers ruling your lives with idiosyncratic methods and teaching styles no one can ever catch onto. Yes, it is finally time to sell our books back to Shriver, and if you’re like me, opt for a much lighter one for the lazy days ahead.
While summer often never really is the idle paradise we wish it to be, with jobs or having a plethora of internship obligations, it’s often a struggle to sit down and find time for literature. However, it’s the only real break we get in the summer, sort of the vacation to our summer vacation.
Out of the millions of books out there, how can you really decide which book is your perfect beach read? Below I have comprised a list perfect beach reads, some new and some quite old.
 
?      The Hunger Games Trilogy: If you have not yet caught onto the phenomena that is The Hunger Games, then I suggest you pack books 1, 2, and 3 for safe measure. The books take place in a post North American apocalyptic world called Panem. The books follow the story of a young heroin named Katniss and her battle with “the Man”. The books are well written and suck you in from the moment you start. For those of you who want to sit in your chair and tan all day long, these books are for you.
 
?      I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell: I recently discovered this book and it immediately caught my eye. The book recounts numerous tales of the life of Tucker Max and the often-dubious events of his life. The book is formatted in short stories, and for anyone who is looking for quick reads in between jet skiing and surfing, it’s the perfect up and down book. I highly recommend this book to people who love a good laugh at the expense of other people lives.

?      Pride and Prejudice: There is nothing like an oldie. While this novel was written over 200 years ago, it’s still my favorite book. Most people I talk to have seen the 2005 version of the movie, but never read the book. I always tell those people they are missing out. I love reading this book at the beach because there is no one like Jane Austin who can make having a crazy mother sound so eloquent.  This book is great for an easy beach read, because the flowing language matches perfectly with the beach waves.
 
            Summer’s a-callin’ people, so drop those 50 pound textbooks and pick up some slightly smaller ones. Happy reading and have a great summer! HXCO!
