Fall Break Itinerary: Do It All

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

With Miami having such a short break, it’s important that we make the most of it and do as much as possible with as many friends and family! These are some of the things you will want to make sure you get out and do before fall is over.

  1. Visit the Pumpkin Patch! Obviously, pumpkin picking is a classic autumn tradition. Whether it include a tractor ride, or buying fresh apple cider donuts from the farm, pumpkin picking is a great way to spend an afternoon or morning with friends or family.

  1. Take the scenic route on the way to the pumpkin patch! My favorite aspect of fall is merely appreciating the foliage. With many of Miami’s students being from the Midwest and New England, these areas of the country are known to have stunning fall scenery. Taking the picturesque parkway or back roads is the perfect way to take this beauty in.

  1. Visit your favorite spots unique to home! The reason I am most excited to head back home is because I miss the things I can’t have in Oxford. For me and my friends from Connecticut, we spend most of our free time at the beach. We also have our go to eateries exclusive to Connecticut or the tri-state area. If you miss your gym (shameless Soulcycle plug), get a good workout in there! Make sure you spend time at places special to your home before you return to Miami!

  1. Go for a hike! There is absolutely no better way to take in the Autumn atmosphere than putting on your sneakers and getting outside.

  1. Attend a fall festival! Probably every state has one, and this is something great to do with your friends! Depending on the state, each festival could have different things to offer, so take advantage of this annual experience!

  1. Treat yoself! Get your nails done! Sleep in! Take a long bath! Do all the things you can’t do at school, you deserve them, after all we’re halfway through the semester! It’s also a good source of alone time, which is important for our mental health as college students.

  1. Spend an embarrassing amount of time with your pets. It is probably concerning how excited I am to see my dogs. The amount of snuggles, pets, naps, walks, and car rides I anticipate are many. In my opinion, this is the number one thing to do over fall break.

  1. Regroup. Hooray! We made it through the first half of first semester. Now that the stress of midterms is likely over, reorganize and certainly plan the next few weeks of academics and other commitments. As sad as it may be, Halloweekend is only a couple weekends away and as students, it is definitely in our best interest to start figuring out what assignments will be due and what exams we have, even into the month of November.
