How To: Look & Feel Your Best During That Time Of The Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

Don’t we all wish we could be Christina Caradona in that Tampax commercial, bouncing around with luxurious hair and stylish clothes without a care in the world when we’re on our period? If only the headaches, cramps, bloating, and sore back would cease to be significant nuisances month after month. Fear not collegiettes, for HC has come up with five tips for you to heed that will allow you to be the boss of your period during that dreaded time of the month.1.) Be active. While exercise may be the last thing on your mind when you’re on your period, exercise can ease the pain of cramps. Yoga is a relaxing way to stretch while Aunt Flo is in town.2.) Pamper yourself. When you look good, you feel good. Do your hair. Get a manicure or a facial. Take a nap. Wear a cute outfit and/or cute underwear. I’d stay away from light colors unless you really trust your pads or tampons, but your monthly gift is no excuse not to take care of yourself.

3.) It’s your period & you’ll wallow if you want to. Sometimes the cramps are too painful or you just feel gross, and you just really need to lounge at home, eat ice cream, and watch Netflix. Wallowing can be quite cathartic sometimes. You’re entitled to a good, old-fashioned pity party every now and then (once every four weeks).4.) Drink plenty of water. Keeping hydrated can make you feel so much better when you are on your period. You might be thinking, “Why would I drink water? I’m already retaining water!” You’re retaining water because you’re dehydrated! Not to mention, frequently consuming water will help clear up your complexion during that time of the month when your face likes to freak out on you.5.) This too shall pass. Keep your head high, remember that this won’t last forever, and remind yourself that you are a goddess and nobody, not even Aunt Flo, keeps you down. Attitude can make a difference.

Caroline is fashionable, creative, and eccentric, though she likes to consider herself whimsical. She is interested in animals, history, fashion, and true crime and wants to be a writer when she grows up (physically; she will never grow up mentally). When not contributing to Her Campus, she can be found studying, working on a million projects at once, people-watching, playing with her beloved cats and dog, writing for fun, and eating red velvet cake.
