Miami University had the privilege of having radio host and author, Krista Tippett, be a part of the Spring 2013 Lecture Series this past Monday. Kristaās radio show, On Being, provides a medium and time to discuss topics such as spirituality, religion, and faith. Ā She also dedicates a lot of her time talking about how to discuss these tough, and even sometimes taboo, topics. Ā For any of you Collegiettes struggling with, unsure about, or questioning what these mean, or maybe even want to delve deeper, Krista gave advice on how to talk about them:
Ā
- A quiet, inviting and calm space is good. Krista explains that a stress free and non threatening environment best facilitates tough discussions like an individualās feelings on spirituality and faith.
- āUse the word āIā.ā When talking about what you may or may not believe in, Krista stresses that it is important to clearly express how we feel as an individual. Ā This will make it easier to speak on in the future.
- Innovate new ways to talk. Krista says that because it is so hard to talk about and āvery intimateā that finding ways to talk that work for you personally can help ease the pressure.
