- You’ve fought off a swan
-
Miller and S’Ville are vicious and vile. Since I started at Millersville, I’ve seen the swans approach classroom buildings trying to get inside, hiss and attack people. I fell victim to an attack on my shoe once. As beautiful as they are, they are a menace to the point where our campus placed signs that said they would attack. However, they are a symbol of the university.
- You love the Galley
-
The Galley is by far the superior dining option or at least it used to be. It’s got grab and go food and a huge seating area to hangout and chill while grabbing a bite. The cheesesteaks are to die for and the pasta is delicious. My favorite pre-covid food was the salad bar because it had all the best toppings.
- You Didn’t think saxby’s was that great
-
The lines were long. The bagels either had too much or no cream cheese. The coffees weren’t that good. Saxby’s was overrated. It was insanely crowded, slow and not a good place for a quick bite or drink between classes regardless of what time of day it was. Now that it is closing, I am interested to see what dining decides to do with that space.
- You’ve heard someone call the smc “smack”, the “smick”
-
I’ll be honest, I used to call it the Smick when I started here and eventually it became a joke. But people who go here know that is is called the “smack.” Our student memorial center is a central hub to organizations, events and the galley.
- you love bingo
-
No joke, people line up for bingo up to an hour early because it is so popular. The university activities board plans pretty awesome events. Bingo is one of the top five events. Bingo has such a high attendance especially after covid that UAB has to limit how many people attend because there is a lack of resources.
- your president is a king
-
Dr. Wubah is a tribal king (Safohene) at Breman Asikuma in the Central Region of Ghana. His royal name is Nana Ofosu Peko III. This fact was brought up to me after starting at Millersville. I thought that it was really cool. He has a really neat PBS video talking about his experience as a president and a king.

- you’ve taken the mu express
-
The MU Express is perfect for lazy people like me who don’t like to walk all around campus. (I will walk places less than 10 minutes). Every 20 minutes, the bus cycles around campus and makes stops are frequent destinations. It’s always so cold and cool on the bus and not frequently crowded. There is plenty of space to social distance.
- you’ve had late night sugar bowl
-
Sugar Bowl is an iconic staple of mediocre food that sometimes just hits the spot. Personally, the onion rings are my absolute favorite but the cheesesteaks are also very good. I personally don’t really like their pizza but it definitely is a bargain. What I really love is that they deliver and they are open past midnight.
- you’ve woken up to a fire alarm
-
Whether you live in the dorms or Student Lodging, the fire alarms are possibly the most annoying things in the world. My freshman year this guy had us woken at 8 am by an alarm cause he burned instant mac and cheese in the microwave because he forgot to put water. I ended up being late to my class because I wasn’t dressed and had to wait until the fire squad could come. Fire alarms are without a doubt the worst part of college living.
- you’ve questioned your mascot
-
Our mascot is a lovely parrot named Skully, however our schools actual mascot is a marauders. If you don’t know what that means it basically is a land pirate. All of our dining halls are names after water type pirate things ex: the cove, the anchor, the upper deck, the galley. It doesn’t make sense.
