It’s crunch time. It’s that time in the semester when all those procrastinated long term assignments are coming due and you are pulling countless overnighters in attempts to get caught up. In the midst of all of this it is difficult to remember Thanksgiving and reflect on what we are thankful for. Although it may not be evident right now, we are given many privlages as college students, here are a few of them…
1. Free stuff
Because when you are broke, tired, stressed, and a combination of all the above, receiving free things is the highlight of your week — especially when it is food.
2. Good professors
When you find a professor you actually like, it outweighs all the terrible professors you’ve had in the past and allows you to actually enjoy your class.
3. 24-hour fast food restaurants/diners
There is nothing better than a late night McDonald’s run after a successful study session. Or honestly whenever, because college is stressful.Â
4. Curved testsÂ
When you get a C- but the curve brings your grade up to a B+… There is nothing better than that.
5. Naps
When the reality of your never-ending assignments is too much to handle, naps will always have your back, whenever and where ever.Â
6. Cancelled classes
There is no better feeling than waking up for an 8am class, checking your email, and discovering your teacher cancelled class for the day. It’s even better when you find out your second class is also cancelled.
7. The “mom” of your friend group
When your nights get a little too crazy or you simply need some rational life advice, there is always that one friend who has your back and acts as your mom away from home.
8. Coffee
When sleep is nonexistent, coffee is always there for you. Always.Â
9. That one person who runs and takes over your entire group project.
Although we all despise the one group member who does nothing, we also don’t want to be the group member who does everything either, because who really has the time for all of that? Here’s to the group member who carried your group and somehow mangaged to get everyone an A by doing the entire project the night before it was due.Â
10. Netflix
Long day? Sad? Tired? Lost? Confused? Netflix is always the answer.Â
11. Free gym memberships
When you run out of ideas of what to do while procrastinating, having a free gym to go to at any time starts looking more and more appealing…Â
12. Google
When you’re in the middle of a heated debate, need a quick answer, or have a question that is too embarassing to ask even your closest friends, Google is always there for you. And Google always has the answers.Â
13. Student ID discounts
Here’s to the people who are broke but still have shopping addictions. Thank you to the stores who acknowledge this and give us discounts.Â
14. Take out food
Some days just call for ordering 3 large pizzas with every topping possible and stress eating until you forget about all of your sorrows.Â
15. The realization that Thanksgiving is almost here…
Which means you can go home to the comfort of your childhood home, sleep all day, wash your clothes for free, not have to worry about homework, and stuff your face with copious amounts of food without any judgment.Â
Whatever you may be thankful for this year, remember to always treasure what you have, enjoy the people you are surrounded by, and cherish the memories you are making!
