I have had the incredible honor of getting to watch my sister grow up. She has made me and my family so proud, and as she turns eighteen it makes me so happy that she has grown into an incredible young adult. Of course we fight, like all sisters do, but more importantly, we have made so many incredible memories together that mean the world to me.
My sister and I have a lot in common, and I love so many of the memories we have made. From buying Big Time Rush concert tickets at midnight two days before the show and singing and dancing our hearts out in the very last row, to sneaking around with secret high school marching band knowledge that we don’t share with our parents so it is a surprise, to watching “The Summer I Turned Pretty” on the beach at night over the summer, to our random Target runs, we always have the best time together. I wouldn’t trade those moments for anything.
My sister is a role model for her peers, taking on responsibilities and opportunities every chance she gets. She’s so involved in school, and she is so musically talented both vocally and instrumentally. She cares so much about her involvements and will go to events hours early to help in any way she can. Her ability to care is one of my favorite things about her, and I hope it sticks with her throughout the rest of her life.
As my sister prepares for her next steps after high school graduation, I want her to know that I will be here for her every day. I hope she knows how much I love her, and how much I am rooting for her to succeed. I hope she knows that even when we fight, I am not really all that mad at her. I hope she knows that I’m sorry if I ever annoy her, and that I am always looking out for her best interests. I hope she knows that the idea of not being able to walk across the hall and talk to her at any moment breaks my heart. I hope she knows that I cannot wait to see all the amazing things she is going to accomplish, and that she will always, always, always have a best friend in me.Â
There’s so much more I could say about how much I love her and how wonderful a person she is, but some of those details are best left between us. I’ll just say that I am so lucky to have a sister who is as beautiful a person and soul as she is.Â
HCXO,
Katie
