When I tell people I go to Millersville University, they often think I’m stuck in the countryside with nothing to do for fun. But that could not be further from the truth! Millersville is very close to downtown Lancaster, a small city with a lot of unique places. You just have to do a little exploring to find them! Here are some of my favorite places around Lancaster, PA:
- Fulton Theatre
-
Right next door to Millersville University’s Ware Center, the Fulton Theatre is a wonderful place to see live musicals or plays. I’ve been seeing shows here for many years, such as Elf: The Musical, Mary Poppins, Kinky Boots, and The Sound of Music, just to name a few. The theatre itself is historic and has beautiful interiors. Because it is a regional theater, the tickets are more affordable than a Broadway show, but the productions are always well done.
- Prince Street Café
-
Across the street from the Fulton Theatre is a great place to eat called the Prince Street Café. The inside is cozy and trendy, with seating perfect for lunch with friends or a solo study date. I’ve enjoyed both breakfast and lunch options here, but my personal favorite is the guacamole breakfast sandwich and iced vanilla latte. Yum!
- Central Market
-
Similar to Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market, Central Market is an indoor mecca of good eats, fresh flowers, and homemade artwork, right in the heart of downtown Lancaster. It’s such a special experience to see people of all walks of life meet in this bustling market! You just can’t go wrong with a handmade Amish soft pretzel from here.
- pine view dairy
-
The last place I’d like to mention is a little farther outside of downtown Lancaster but is very close to Millersville. Pine View Dairy is a great spot for delicious homemade ice cream. Their treats are high quality, and they have a small store where you can buy pints of ice cream to take home. Plus, you can pet some baby cows after you’re finished eating!
There are many other places to go and things to do around Lancaster, but these are my favorites so far! I hope to explore more during my final two years at Millersville University. If you get the chance, I encourage anyone to give these a try!
