Thanksgiving Traditions that Make My Heart Happy

Halloween is officially over and the Thanksgiving season is here! As the weather gets colder (and I start to buy more sweaters) I’m so ready to go back home for the Holidays! Here are some of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions that I love:

Family Time

This goes without saying, but being home with my family is something I am starting to appreciate more and more as I get older. It’s always nice to get away from the campus dorms even for a few weeks and be home. I love the dinners and night outs with my family or even just taking a drive around while listening to music. The holidays always bring us closer together and it’s such a special time.

Fall Movies

Movies have always been my escape, and I feel like so many new ones are coming out recently! Whether I stream them and watch from the comfort of my couch, or go to the theaters, movies are a great fall activity. This Thanksgiving break, I will definitely be binging some shows and watching all my fall favorites. The first one that came to my mind while writing this article was Boy Meets World. (I could do an entire page on this show.) It’s my all-time comfort and feel-good show to binge over my Thanksgiving break!

Baking

Every Thanksgiving, there are two things that put me into the kitchen: the Pillsbury cookies and Pumpkin Bread. Sometimes all you want is quick and easy (and store-bought) and the Pillsbury cookies are iconic. With the little patterns on them, they are cute and honestly so good! Of course, there is nothing like baking from scratch. Every year for Thanksgiving growing up, I would help (but mostly watch) my father make homemade Pumpkin Bread. The kitchen would smell so warm and cozy. I’m the most excited to eat it again this year! Baking is such another fun Thanksgiving activity!

Reading

To those of you who know me, you already knew I had to put this on my list! Thanksgiving break is peak time for reading! I love books with the warm fall vibes and reading it at the same time makes you feel like you’re in the novel yourself. My favorite fall books recently have been The Falling by Anna Todd and The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Getting cozy with a good fall book makes for a perfect Thanksgiving night!

The Parade

I saved the best for last! The Macy’s Day Parade is my favorite tradition of Thanksgiving. Every year, I wake up to the parade on TV and my family watches it while getting ready for the rest of our festivities. I love seeing the floats and performers, and maybe one day I’ll get to be there live! It is always an amazing way to kick off Thanksgiving Day and I am so excited to see the parade again this year with my family from the comfort of our living room!

I’m so excited for Thanksgiving this year and I hope you’ve loved hearing about a few traditions that touch my heart. This is a time to give thanks, and I encourage you to reflect on that as well! Happy Thanksgiving!
