Why I’m Boycotting “Revenge Body”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Millersville chapter.

The Kardashians are a household name despite however you may feel about that. The wealthy family of 5 girls—Kourtney, Khloe, Kim, Kendall, and Kylie—are famous for their sense of fashion, family-owned boutiques, and their reality tv show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. If you don’t know the name, you must be living under a rock somewhere.

Although many people criticize the famous family, they are successful in their own, somewhat aided, fashion. From Kylie’s makeup brand to Kim’s app, they’ve all found their own unique way to make money and leave an impact on our generation. However, their latest pull is not a favorite of mine.

After Khloe’s split from her ex-husband, Lamar Odom, she went into a health kick—working out and using her app to share new and healthy recipes. Quite frankly, Khloe looks great. Now Khloe has her own show, “Revenge Body.” This new stint for money is shameful.

The show features Khloe helping fans who have gained weight get “revenge” on people who discouraged them during their weight gain. With trainers and celebrity features, the fans are aided in losing their weight and getting revenge.

I’ve always been told by both of my parents to love who I am and how I look regardless of my weight. When I decided to start getting into better shape, it was important to me that I do it for myself, and no one else. You should never try to lose weight to make someone else happy, you should only ever do it for yourself.

This show is sending a message to young and older people alike — lose weight and get fit to get revenge on others. Khloe herself is rumored to have lost the weight she did as an effort to make her ex-husband feel remorseful over their break-up. The message to men and women should not be to change yourself for someone else. No matter who they are, don’t ever let someone make you feel like you have to change the way you look for them.

The thing is, self-love is not reliant on losing or gaining weight. Self-love is learning to appreciate your body and mind, no matter what state it’s in, and accepting that sometimes you do need to make some changes in order to better yourself. That doesn’t always mean changing your size, though. Although Khloe does look fantastic, don’t let her new body convince you of the standards for your body, or what you should be acheiving post-breakup. The best revenge you can get on haters is to love yourself no matter how you look.
