The 10 Hidden Gem Twitter Accounts to Follow

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Minnesota chapter.

Everyone knows which big name celebrities have the funniest tweets, but there’s plenty of lesser known but equally funny accounts from people who aren’t quite as star-studded as Ryan Reynolds. These are the best of the hidden gems of Twitter to make your day a little better while you scroll between classes.

1. David Harbour

We know David Harbour as Hopper from all of the times we’ve binged Stranger Things recently, and David is just as funny on Twitter as he is on camera–maybe even more so without the threat of the Upside Down hanging over him. David’s Twitter is an accumulation of him agreeing to be in a girl’s senior photos, officiate a wedding of a couple of fans and now he’s trying to get enough retweets to go and have a dance party with some penguins.

2. Kumail Nanjiani

Listen, The Big Sick deserved a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars and I’m still bitter about it. But Kumail’s Twitter isa great blend of his outrage over all things politics and very bittersweet remembrance of his wife’s illness, the premise of their movie The Big Sick, which reinvented the genre of romcoms this year.

3 and 4. Rhea Butcher and Cameron Esposito

Rhea and Cameron are two gender nonconforming lesbian comedians who never fail to put a smile on your face with their lovely, married lesbians banter. Seeing the pieces of their lives – as they yell about politics and television as such – is nearly as enjoyable as their short-lived series Take My Wife.

5. Tim Federle

Tim co-wrote the new animated movie Ferdinand this year, but his Twitter account is where he really shines. There’s some really wonderful writing advice embedded in his Twitter, he always has a snarky comment about theatre to share and also just writes some good, relatable jokes that he shares with no cost to you.

6, 7, and 8. Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor

If you’re going to follow anyone in the politic sphere on Twitter, let it be the heads of Crooked Media, three former Obama aides who now run a startup media company where they try to make sense of everything that’s happening in the Trump White House with lightness, brevity and a whole lot of passion. Their tweets are much the same, as the three of them have an excellent repertoire as they start threads just to make fun of one another. Oh, and each of the guys has a Labradoodle too, and you can always count on some adorable puppy pictures.

9. Stephanie Beatriz

Stephanie Beatriz kills it as Rosa every week on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, though her Twitter is much warmer and friendlier than her character. Stephanie is so genuinely supportive of all of her followers, and loves to talk about how much it means to her, as a bisexual Latina woman, to be playing an unapologetically bisexual Latina woman on TV. She also loves supporting other women, Latinx folks and the LGBT community all over her Twitter, which is so beautiful to see.

10. Ira Madison III

If there’s ever something I haven’t yet formed an opinion about, my first step is to go to Ira’s Twitter and see what he thinks. Ira Madison III is someone whose opinion can be trusted above all others. The culture writer for The Daily Beast is sharp, funny and thoroughly entertaining. Known for his catchphrase keep it when it comes to things that can just be passed on, Ira is the best of the best when it comes to humor on Twitter.

These are some of the best accounts on Twitter, and are sure to make your ten-minute scrolls between class much funnier and brighter.
