Karley Barnes is a senior transfer student here at the University of Minnesota, majoring in Communications and minoring in Sociology of Law. While this collegiette hails from Milwaukee, she loves to embrace her Jamaican heritage and tries to go back every now and then to visit her grandpa and the rest of her family. Before coming to the U, Karley went to Tallahassee Community College in Florida.
When Karley isn’t hitting the books, she’s hitting the basketball court as a center for the University of Minnesota Women’s Basketball Team. After overcoming a serious ACL injury, Karley helped the team go 20-12 last season. (No wonder Karley’s favorite spot on campus is Williams Area!) Her second favorite spot on campus is the mall area where she likes to watch the seasons change while lying outside or even throwing around a frisbee.
After she finishes her college basketball career, Karley aspires to complete her degree and play basketball overseas, like her role model and cousin cousin, Destinee Blue. While overseas, Karley wants to visit as many countries as she possibly can.
Despite having a shy outer shell, Karley loves encouraging and helping others. The best piece of advice Karley has received is, “Nothing comes to a sleeper, but a dream.”
