5 Simple Ways to Improve Your 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

“New year new me,” declares every single human on social media when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st. Declaring change is not such an awful concept. Posting this cliché on social media for all of your friends and family to see is sure to hold you at least a little bit accountable for your alleged “new and improved” lifestyle.

Change is inevitable, and it is alarming how many people in our generation are not adaptive to change regardless of how positive it is.

That being said, here are five simple ways to change for the better in 2016:

1. Try Eating Organic

The amount of dairy and meat processing companies that are deceiving is shocking. Eating organic foods is sure to increase quality of life and focus.

2. Drink Water

Drink more water. A lot of us forget to do this because of our busy schedules and stressful academic lives. In the past, I have had to consciously remind myself to drink water. Carry around a water bottle and you will be surprised by how much water you need throughout a day. Your body will thank you.

3. Meditation

Take an hour a day to work on mindfulness and relaxing your mind. Taking the hour away from studying may seem more stressful than it’s worth, but an hour of meditation will leave you feeling more focused. In the long run, working on mindfulness will help you reach your full potential.

4. Meet New People

If your friends are the worst, do not feel like you need to spend time with them (why are they your friends if they are making you unhappy?). Life is too short to surround yourself with unnecessary negative vibes. Plus, meeting new people is a part of life. Embrace it!

5. Be Nice to Yourself

Schedule

If you want to take a mindless break from the stress of life and binge-watch Keeping Up With the Karashians, do it. You deserve a break. Also promising yourself breaks will ensure that you stay motivated.
