Our Celeb this week is Angela Robinson, junior from Chesterfield, Missouri! Angela is the Co-Director of GAMMA (Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol). Angela is Textile and Apparel Management major with a dual-emphasis in Apparel Product Development and Apparel Marketing and Merchandising with minors in Business and Entrepreneurship.

Her Campus Mizzou: What is GAMMA?
Angela Robinson: GAMMA stands for Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol. This organization is made up of fraternity men and sorority women and the University of Missouri. We strive for the safe consumption and safe behaviors in regards to consuming alcohol. We put on events and assist the Wellness Resource Center in their events as we are under the umbrella of the WRC.

HCM: Why did you decide to join GAMMA? How long have you been involved?
AR: I joined GAMMA my freshman year, I was fortunate enough to have been selected as a freshman to be on the 2014 Steering Committee. In 2015, I was re-chosen through the interview process to be on the Steering Committee. Then in November, I was elected to become the 2016 Co-Director of GAMMA along with Sandeep. I joined GAMMA because alcohol safety and advocacy has always been something I participated in and had a passion for. I always joke that it all started when I won the fifth grade DARE speech and got to read it in front of the whole school, but it is very true. In middle school I was then a part of awareness organizations and groups for safe behaviors. In high school I was a Smokebuster, a Teenage Health Consultant (president two years), and a member of STAR (Supporting Teens at Risk). My junior year of high school I founded a district-wide alcohol and drug awareness organization called RHORS, Rockwood Helping Others Remain Safe. We put on events on Friday or Saturday nights for the all of the high schools in the district, as safe alternatives to them going out and drinking. Along with that, I also worked very closely with the Rockwood Drug Free Coalition and the NCADA, National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. I have always had a passion for advocacy and education of alcohol and drugs. GAMMA seemed like the perfect fit for me when I was a freshman and it certainly was because I have loved being a part of it for the past three years.

HCM: What is your favorite memory/event from being a part of GAMMA?
AR: My favorite event from being a part of GAMMA would be the 2014 GAMMA Jam. I loved this event because it was fun and enjoyable by everyone. It was a great time and Greek students got to showcase their talents and be rewarded for it. This is what makes me so excited for it to be GAMMA week and GAMMA Jam being tomorrow, Wednesday, night. I think it will be a great turnout and all in attendance will be happy they showed up. What I love about the 2016 GAMMA Jam is that it provides points towards Greeks Raising the Bar which is an amazing program we implemented this year.

HCM: What is the most important thing you have learned from being in GAMMA?
AR: The most important thing I have learned from being a part of GAMMA is that people can become educated in the smallest ways that people do not realize. A statistic on the back of a t-shirt or a coozie with a quote or a pen someone writes with in class are all small ways that can make a big difference. That statistic or quote or number can resonate with people in more ways than we realize. That is what I have loved seeing and being able to be a part of.

HCM: Are you involved in any other organizations here on campus? If so, what?
AR: My involvement on campus includes; the Mizzou Student Wellness Advocates (also under the umbrella of the WRC, joined when I was a freshman), Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society (top ten percent of the Human and Environmental Sciences College, 2015 – Secretary, 2016 – President), Association of Textile and Apparel Management, and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority (2014 – Risk Manager, 2015 – Director of Standards and Ethics, 2016 – President).
