This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.
Â
This week, our campus celeb is Jenny Modlisz! Jenny graduated from Mizzou last spring with a major in convergence journalism, with minors in business, psychology and classical humanities. She is originally from Algonquin, Illinois, and is now working at AdKarma as their director of digital entertainment.Â
Â
Her Campus Mizzou: What organizations were you involved in at Mizzou?Â
Â
Jenny Modlisz: I absolutely loved my experience at Mizzou! While there, I was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. I also was the campus correspondent of Her Campus. Additionally, I had several internships on and off campus, including working as a production and social media intern on ABC 7’s talk show “Windy City Live” in downtown Chicago.
Â
HCM:Â How did you get the job working at AdKarma? What do you do for them?Â
Â
JM:Â I applied to AdKarma back in January 2014 and actually applied for a different department. After several interviews, I discovered the opening the company had for video content producers. After two more interviews, I got the job as a producer of Tasty Productions! Tasty Productions creates amazing content for YouTube and the web. I absolutely LOVE working at Tasty Productions/AdKarma. I have met a lot of amazing people and have had some stellar opportunities. Since then, I have been promoted twice. I was first promoted to the video content manager of the Columbia, Missouri, office. Then I was promoted to the director of digital entertainment, so I oversee both the Columbia and LA offices.
Â
HCM:Â What advice do you have for students interested in the same field as you?
Â
JM:Â My advice to other students interested in journalism would be to get your feet wet in as many opportunities as possible. You NEVER know where your first (or next!) job may come from. It pays off to work hard and make connections. PLUS doing what you love makes every day fly by. If you’re not excited about what you are doing, then keep looking.
Â
HCM:Â What is your favorite Mizzou memory?
Â
JM:Â My favorite Mizzou memory is when the Mizzou football team beat Texas A&M to move on to our first SEC championship. The stadium rushed the field and it was just CRAZY. I will never forget that moment.
Â
HCM:Â What is one thing/place a Mizzou student must do/go before they graduate?
Â
JM:Â Besides completing all of the Mizzou traditions, attending Homecoming and going to football games, every Mizzou student MUST try the five cheese garlic pizza from flat branch. It’s TO DIE FOR.
