Want a little bit of magic in your life? Then “The House with a Clock in its Walls” is just the movie for you.

This film is based on the novel by John Bellairs. The wonder and eeriness in the story are showcased inside a unique house in New Zebedee, MI. You might ask, what’s unique about the house? Well, the answer to that question is that the house is alive. That’s right. The furniture, pictures, and even the pumpkins come to life in this story. There is also a ticking inside the walls of the house that reflect a dark secret.

A young boy named Lewis takes a special place in everyone’s hearts. The beginning starts out telling how he lost his parents and is now going to live with his uncle in the peculiar house. He is a bit of an awkward character, but he is also very intelligent and just wants to fit in. Unfortunately, the need to feel cool and be friends with the popular kids causes him to make some decisions that he later regrets.

Jack Black and Cate Blanchett make a hilarious duo. Black plays Lewis’ uncle Jonathan, who is a warlock, and Blanchett takes on the role of the next door neighbor named Florence, who also happens to be a powerful witch. These two provide comic relief along with the magic as they have been lifelong friends who always bicker and tease each other.

Jonathan has lived in the house ever since an evil warlock named Issac Izard, who was killed while trying to create a spell within the house. This spell was intended to wipe out the entire universe by reversing time, leaving only Izard and his wife left to roam the earth. Crazy, right? Everyone thinks that this guy is gone for good, but the mysterious ticking in the wall proves otherwise.

Now if you think walking chairs, moving pictures and pumpkins coming to life are out of the ordinary, things get even weirder. Necromancy enters into the life of Lewis as he discovers more secrets within the house. Things keep spiraling out of control until the fate of the world rests on one little boy’s shoulder. How does it all end? Watch the movie to find out.
