Reverse the Rules of Shampoo and Conditioner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

There are debates on which you should do first: pants or top, cereal or milk, foundation or eye makeup. But conditioner and shampoo isn’t usually one of them, because duh, shampoo then conditioner. We aren’t crazy people.

Apparently, TRESemmé wants us to be exactly that, and they have good reason. TRESemmé’s new Beauty-Full Volume collection is based around a flipped system, and it really, really works.

I got to try out the shampoo and conditioner from the line, and the idea is pretty simple. Wet your hair like normal, but instead of shampooing it up, you use the conditioner first. Let it sit for however long it takes to shave your various body parts, then rinse and use the shampoo.

“Condition first to soften hair, then shampoo to wash away weight,” claims TRESemmé on the collection’s page.

I will admit, in a fit of boredom one night, I had tried using conditioner first, but with my normal shampoo/conditioner duo. I wasn’t impressed with those results; they just made my hair feel slightly drier than normal.

However, I’m glad to report I’m honestly obsessed with this TRESemmé line, or at least this conditioner/shampoo pair!

The scent is really nice, like the comforting smell of a salon that you wish you could bottle, but it isn’t strong, and fades by the time you’re done blow-drying. I personally found that a plus, since I use a leave-in conditioner with a strong fragrance already.

After using this for four days straight (I wash my hair every day: I know, I know, it’s bad for my hair!), I noticed my hair was fluffier, softer, and weightness. It wasn’t parched, however, and this system worked really well for my daily showers!

It’s better than a lot of luxury volumizing shampoos and conditioners I’ve tried (looking at you, Aquage), and I’m not just saying that. I was pretty impressed with this stuff.

I snapped some quick (and apologetically low-quality) photos of before and after my four days using this, and I hope the difference is conveyed because I really can see and feel an improvement. In fact, I might even say it’s a bit too much volume for my short hair! You’re too good, TRESemmé, you’re too good.

My hair floof is literally out of shot. Texas, here I come.
