The 1975 are on tour and still… at their very best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

The 1975 took the stage in Kansas City, Missouri to perform on their “Still… At Their Very Best” tour on October 25. Matty Healy (frontman), Adam Hann (guitarist), George Daniel (drummer) and Ross MacDonald (bassist) formed the indie alternative band from Cheshire, England in 2002 and released their debut studio album ‘The 1975’ in 2013. Since then, the four have been on several tours across the globe, with the U.S. making up a significant amount of the dates each time.

This was my fifth time seeing The 1975 live in concert, and this year marks the 10th year I have kept up with the band and listened to their music. Although five is a big number, they never fail to disappoint with their stage aesthetic and catchy tunes. They always have me coming back to each tour wondering what show they’ll put together next.

With that being said, the venues seem to get bigger and bigger each time the band goes on tour. It has been so surreal watching the number of fans grow every year when sitting in venues waiting for the quartet to come on stage.

“The 1975 shows are equally as about the music as they are the experience,” says Ella Foster, a fan who has also attended several shows. “Between the set, lighting, band and the fans, there is no show like a show put on by The 1975.”

Whether the ticket holders only know the popular songs or every word to their discography, every filled seat is sure to have a good time.

“As someone who doesn’t know any of the words to their music I still had a great time,” says Macee Lewis, a spectator at Wednesday night’s show. “The band was incredible and it was so amazing seeing everyone in the crowd shouting every word along with [the band]. They have a very devoted fan base.”

About halfway through the show, Healy pointed out a woman in the front row, asking her how many shows she had been to. Kim Hads is a 57-year-old woman from Indianapolis, Indiana. She has attended 72 shows so far, and she is not slowing down anytime soon.

“My daughter got me into [The 1975],” she says. “[I] started out documenting our shows together, then [my account] turned into a fan account to document and record my shows for others.”

Healy asked the woman to pick any song she wanted and they would play it. Upon request, the band played ‘Undo,’ a song released in 2012.

“I was still buzzing from getting to hear the song ‘Pressure’ live for the first time. I like to record [Matty] talking because he’s funny sometimes in between songs, but when he turned and said my name, I looked at my friend to make sure I heard right,” She says. “Undo is one of my favorite songs and I hadn’t heard it live since 2020.”

You can watch the heartwarming moment here, filmed by Hads herself.

With a different setlist every night, you’ll always be in for a surprise no matter how many concert videos you’ve seen on TikTok.
